It has been announced that CMA CGM will also be closing its direct US-West "Golden Gate Bridge" (GGB) service, with the last voyage departing Shanghai on 12 September and expected to cycle back to Shanghai on 5 November. Seattle - Kaohsiung.
At the same time, the CMA US-West direct EXX service will add the port of Oakland. The changed port of call sequence will be: Yantian-Ningbo-Shanghai-Los Angeles-Auckland-Honolulu-Yantian.
CMA launched the US West service GGB in January 2021 to improve service quality and thus avoid congestion, etc., with direct access to Oakland from China. Using a fleet of multiple 5,000-11,000 TEU container vessels.
Currently, CMA CGM's 9,415 TEU "CMA CGM MEDEA" is on its final voyage of the service, having departed Shanghai on 12 September, with the cycle expected to end in Shanghai on 5 November.
Given the Golden Week holiday in the first week of October and the overall positive developments in freight, additional capacity reductions are expected to be implemented by the major carriers in the coming weeks to prevent further falls in spot ocean freight rates.
