Container transportation has become the most convenient and efficient transportation method today. At the same time, we have seen an endless stream of maritime accidents caused by misdeclared and omission of dangerous goods. Various shipping companies have shown high liquidated damages, calling for industry self-discipline, with only one purpose: to ensure the shipping safety of ships and goods, and to protect the interests of customers.
However, it is far from enough to rely on the deterrence of penalties and subsequent review. In all aspects of goods production, warehousing, booking, packing, and transportation, practitioners (including customers and agents) need to be aware of SOLARS and IMDG CODE regulations. A clear understanding, and a clear understanding of the characteristics of the transported cargo.
Today, we will introduce "MSDS" and "battery", which is the leading product name in the inspection, and make a series of explanations. We will learn and enrich relevant knowledge with you, and jointly create a "safe", "self-disciplined" and "efficient" industry environment.
In this MSDS guide is divided into 3 parts：
A material safety data sheet is a technical document which provides detailed and comprehensive information on a controlled product related to:
· health effects of exposure to the product
· hazard evaluation related to the product’s handling, storage or use
· measure to protect workers at risk of exposure
· emergency procedures.
The data sheet may be written, printed or otherwise expressed, and must meet the availability, design and content requirements of WHMIS legislation. The legislation provides for flexibility of design and wording but requires that a minimum number of categories of information be completed and that all hazardous ingredients meeting certain criteria be listed subject to exemptions granted under the Hazardous Materials Information Review Act.
By checking the MSDS data of the goods, we can understand the characteristics of the goods and minimize the risk index. Today we will talk about MSDS.
The full name of MSDS is Material Safety Data Sheet. A file of possible hazards to the user's health (eg, carcinogenic, teratogenic, etc.).
Generally, the goods that need to check MSDS include batteries, chemicals, etc. In addition to identifying dangerous goods and non-dangerous goods, MSDS can also identify and confirm the special stowage of some special goods.
When reviewing MSDS, the following basic elements are generally required:
· MSDS acceptance is valid for 3 years from the Issue Date
· 16 basic contents should be filled out item by item, except [Other Information]
· Column 2 or 3 of the MSDS must be 100% complete
· If there is UN No. in the 14th column, CLASS belongs to dangerous goods
· The name of the production unit of the MSDS is the same as the name of the production unit of the certificate of transportation conditions of the goods. If not, the relationship between the two should be explained.
1. Non-hazardous batteries that do not need to provide MSDS check:
· Alkaline battery
· Zn-Mn battery
· Carbon-Zinc battery
· Dry battery
It can be regarded as non-dangerous goods, and there is no need to declare dangerous goods, and no need to submit for review.
2. Non-hazardous batteries that need to be checked by MSDS:
① Lithium battery: MSDS and the special clause SP188 of the IMDG Code must be provided before it can be collected as a general product.
② Lead-acid battery: MSDS and compliance with the special clause SP238 of the IMDG Code are required before they can be collected as a general product.
③ Nickel-metal hydride battery: MSDS and photos of goods packaging are required to confirm whether it can be collected as a general product. Please indicate the shipping form when applying.
After the above introduction, we believe you have a deeper understanding of MSDS and batteries. The safety characteristics of the goods play an important role in indicating the ship's transportation. Only by properly arranging the loading of the containers can the goods be shipped safely.
