US Sanctions Targeting Russias Maritime Sector

Recently, the United States once again announced new sanctions on eight maritime-related companies and 69 ships linked to the Russian government.

"The new actions are designed to undermine the Kremlin's ability to support Putin in waging and sustaining war," the State Department said in a statement.

Currently, the U.S. State Department has placed seven shipping companies on the Treasury Department’s DN list (Specially Designated Nationals and Prohibited Persons List), including the Russian Defense Ministry’s maritime-related company Oboronlogistika OOO. U.S. authorities say the company has been involved in Russia's illegal seizure and occupation of Crimea since 2014, as well as transporting arms and other military equipment for Russia.

In addition, the State Department took action against 69 vessels owned by the sanctioned companies, as well as OOO Fertoing, a maritime engineering firm that works with the Russian government and Russian state-owned entities.

"This action is a warning to private Russian companies that those supporting Russia's war will face serious costs," U.S. authorities said.

The following companies were sanctioned:

· Oboronlogistika OOO

· SC South LLC

· Northern Shipping Company

· Transmorflot LLC

· M Leasing LLC

· Marine Trans Shipping LLC

· Nord Project LLC Transport Company

· Obshchestvo S Ogranichennoi Otvetstvennostyu Fertoing ("OOO Fertoing")
