According to the latest data from Alphaliner, as of July 7 2022, there were 6,405 container ships in operation worldwide, with a total capacity of 25.7931 million TEU, equivalent to about 309 million deadweight tons. Among them, the total capacity of the top three liner companies accounted for 46.8% of the global market.
Among the top 100 shipping companies in the world, the first place is occupied by MSC Mediterranean Shipping, Maersk and CMA CGM are ranked second and third respectively. COSCO Shipping still ranks fourth, Hapag-Lloyd ranks fifth, and the sixth to tenth liner companies are Evergreen Shipping, ONE, HMM, Yang Ming Shipping and ZIM. The top 7 have a capacity of more than 1.5 million TEU.
The 11th to 20th places are: Wan Hai Shipping, PIL, KMTC, UniFeeder, X-Press Feeders Group, SITC, IRISL, Zhonggu Shipping, T.S. Lines and SM Line.
