The most crowded Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) recently saw a large number of security personnel diagnosed with COVID-19. According to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, at least 400 confirmed cases were reported among Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and Southwest Airlines staff.
At the time, however, airport service had not been affected, while Southwest Airlines had to ground a number of flights.
In fact, parts of LAX are experiencing a massive COVID-19 outbreak of at least 400+ cases, including Southern California Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) staff, and 154 American Airlines infections and 28 Southwest Airlines infections.
American Airlines has about 7,000 employees at LAX, across multiple terminals as well as maintenance and cargo facilities, with positive test results representing about 2 percent of the workforce.
Southwest Airlines told the media in a statement, "Los Angeles County continues to show high community levels of COVID-19 transmission, we have encountered COVID-19 cases within our LAX employee work group and will continue to follow COVID-19 protest guidelines with no significant impact to LAX operations ".
The latest update is that four carriers have suspended flights from the U.S. back to China.
