The Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) has announced a new container service, the BOS route, operated by Blue Ocean Shipping. This service will connect Jeddah Islamic Port with three major Chinese hubs: Qingdao, Ningbo, and Guangzhou Nansha. The service will deploy vessels with a capacity of 2,300 TEU.

This initiative is part of Mawani’s ongoing efforts to enhance Saudi Arabia’s global ranking in performance indicators and facilitate national export flows. It aligns with the National Transport and Logistics Strategy (NTLS), which aims to solidify Saudi Arabia’s position as a global logistics hub connecting three continents.

Notably, Jeddah Islamic Port is the largest hub in the region and the biggest transshipment and maritime trade center on the Red Sea coast. It handles 65% of Saudi Arabia’s maritime import and transshipment cargo, covering an area of 12 square kilometers with 62 multi-purpose berths and an annual cargo handling capacity of 130 million tons.

In July 2025, container throughput at Mawani-supervised ports increased by 12.01% year-on-year. Transshipment container throughput also grew by 35.34%, while export container throughput rose by 12.86%. Import container throughput saw a modest increase of 0.10%.
