Over 26 Million TEUs! Silk Road Maritime Routes Continue to Accelerate Development

As China's first international shipping and logistics corridor dedicated to the Belt and Road Initiative, Silk Road Maritime routes have maintained a strong momentum of vigorous development, continuously injecting powerful impetus into the smooth flow of global trade and in-depth regional economic cooperation.

Recently, at Xiamen Port in Fujian, a batch of festive goods such as Spring Festival couplets and candies, along with various mechanical and electrical products, were successfully loaded. These goods then set sail via Silk Road Maritime routes and can reach ports in Southeast Asian countries in just 2 days, significantly shortening the transportation time by 2-5 days compared with traditional routes, which has greatly improved logistics efficiency.

2025 Performance & Cumulative Achievements

According to the latest data released, Silk Road Maritime achieved remarkable results in 2025:

Container throughput exceeded 5.4 million TEUs, a year-on-year increase of 9.11%.
Bulk and general cargo transportation exceeded 12.27 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 26.4%.

As a key project in the 14th Five-Year Plan, Silk Road Maritime is a crucial measure for China to actively practice the high-quality Belt and Road Initiative. Since the first route was officially launched in Xiamen in 2018, it has forged ahead by leaps and bounds:

Cumulative container throughput has exceeded 26 million TEUs, and cumulative bulk and general cargo transportation has exceeded 34 million tons.
The number of routes has soared from the initial 16 to 148 at present, covering important economic regions such as Southeast Asia, South Asia, the Middle East, and Europe, reaching 150 ports in 48 countries and regions worldwide, and building an extensive maritime logistics network.
