It is reported that MSC continues to expand its market-leading newbuilding order book, commissioning newbuilding orders for 10 8,100TEU dual-fuel container ships and 10 11,400TEU dual-fuel container ships at New Era Shipyard.

In January this year, MSC's fleet surpassed Maersk to become the world's largest liner operator. Currently, MSC operates a fleet of 4,427,052TEU in total, comprising 347 owned and 331 chartered vessels. The company is also leading the way in order books, with MSC having been ordering new ships since last year. There are 113 ships under construction (total capacity 1,463,978TEU), including ships commissioned by ship suppliers.

MSC launches new transpacific service

MSC said it is revamping its transpacific network, launching a new Zephyr service next month and improving existing Santana and Sentosa services on its Asia-US routes.

In the past month alone, MSC has added three separate services to the transatlantic trade route, according to maritime and supply chain intelligence firm eeSea.

The company's huge demand for second-hand vessels underpins the necessary capacity, with MSC acquiring more than 200 second-hand vessels in the S&P market over the past two years.

Zephyr Service

The Zephyr service will launch in mid-July, pending regulatory approval.

This new weekly service will enable MSC to provide direct connections from northern China and South Korea to the U.S. Gulf Coast. There will also be a direct call at Port Everglades, which so far has only been through transshipment.

The maiden voyage of the Zephyr service is carried out by the container ship "MSC Bremen" on July 20, departing from Shanghai Port with voyage 229A.

Zephyr port rotation: Shanghai-Ningbo-Busan-Cristobal-Houston-Port Everglades-Savannah-Lazaro Cardenas-Shanghai.
