If you're an Italian business owner importing from China, I'm going to guess you've already learned this the hard way:
Spedire merci ingombranti dalla Cina all'Italia non è semplice.
Shipping oversized, heavy cargo to Italy is a special kind of headache. You've got the mountains (the Alps in the north, the Apennines running down the middle). You've got the islands — Sicily, Sardinia, Elba, and dozens of smaller ones that are technically Italy but logistically might as well be another country. You've got Genoa up north and Naples down south, with completely different trucking routes depending on where your goods are going.
And let's not even talk about Italian customs. If you've ever dealt with dogana italiana yourself, you know exactly what I mean.
But here's the thing: there's a better way. It's called sea freight DDP — Delivered Duty Paid — and it's how more and more Italian importers are moving their heavy and bulky goods from China.
In this guide, I'll break down the real costs (October 2026 prices), how long it actually takes, what you need to know about islands and remote areas, and why DDP might be the shipping solution you didn't know you needed.
Let's start simple.
That's it. No separate bills. No customs paperwork. No surprise charges when the truck shows up.
You tell us what you're shipping, how much it weighs, and where it needs to go in Italy. We pick it up in China, put it on a ship, clear it through Italian customs, pay the duty and IVA, and deliver it to your address. One price. One contact. Tutto incluso.
If you've ever done traditional LCL shipping and thought "okay, the freight cost is X" — then two months later you're paying port fees, customs broker fees, duty, IVA, trucking, and something called "spese amministrative" that nobody can explain — you already understand the value of DDP.
This isn't for your small Amazon parcel. This is for the heavy, bulky, oversized stuff:
Furniture (mobili da soggiorno, arredamento esterno, mobili per ufficio)
Gym equipment (attrezzi palestra, tapis roulant, macchine per il fitness)
Industrial machinery and factory equipment
Building materials, tiles, bathroom fixtures, kitchens
Store displays and retail fixtures (espositori, scaffalature, allestimenti negozi)
E-bikes, electric scooters, mobility equipment (in bulk)
Restaurant and hotel furniture and equipment
Basically anything 100kg+ that's too expensive for air freight but doesn't fill a whole container
Alright, let's get to the numbers. These are real all-inclusive rates for DDP sea freight from China to Italy — door to door, duty and IVA included.
Italy has two price zones:
Zone A covers most of mainland Italy — roughly 80% of addresses, including all the major cities.
Zone B covers islands (Sicily, Sardinia, etc.), certain mountain areas, and harder-to-reach postcodes.
Milan, Turin, Rome, Naples, Florence, Bologna, Venice, Verona, Bari, and most of the peninsula are Zone A.
Weight Range | Price per kg (DDP, all-in) | Example: 1000kg shipment |
|---|---|---|
50 – 100 kg | ~ ¥17.9 / kg | ~ ¥17,900 |
101 – 300 kg | ~ ¥15.3 / kg | ~ ¥15,300 |
301 – 500 kg | ~ ¥14.6 / kg | ~ ¥14,600 |
501 – 1000 kg | ~ ¥14.3 / kg | ~ ¥14,300 |
1001 – 2000 kg | ~ ¥14.1 / kg | ~ ¥14,100 |
2001 – 3000 kg | ~ ¥13.9 / kg | ~ ¥27,800 |
3001 kg + | ~ ¥13.8 / kg | ~ ¥41,400 |
Sicily, Sardinia, Elba, and other island/remote postcodes fall into Zone B.
Weight Range | Price per kg (DDP, all-in) |
|---|---|
50 – 100 kg | ~ ¥19.6 / kg |
101 – 300 kg | ~ ¥17.2 / kg |
301 – 500 kg | ~ ¥15.8 / kg |
501 – 1000 kg | ~ ¥15.5 / kg |
1001 – 2000 kg | ~ ¥15.4 / kg |
2001 – 3000 kg | ~ ¥15.3 / kg |
3001 kg + | ~ ¥14.9 / kg |
Italy has a lot of islands. A LOT. And they're all different:
Sicily (9xxxx) : Yes, we ship there. It's Zone B pricing. The cargo goes by sea from the mainland (usually from Genoa or Naples) to Palermo or Catania.
Sardinia (07xxx-09xxx) : Also Zone B. Ships to Cagliari or Olbia.
Elba (57037) : Smaller island, special pricing, minimum weight applies.
Livigno (23041) : Special economic zone — can't deliver door to door, recipient has to pick up outside the free zone.
Tiny islands (Ventotene, San Domino, etc.) : These need to be quoted individually. Some we can do, some we can't.
Suggerimento: If you're not sure which zone your postcode is in, just send it to us. We'll check and give you an exact price within a few hours. If you're in a major city like Milano, Roma, Torino, Bologna, Firenze — you're definitely Zone A.
For a 500kg shipment of furniture or industrial supplies:
Air freight to Italy: ~ ¥48-68 / kg = ¥24,000 – 34,000
Sea DDP to Italy (Zone A) : ~ ¥14.3 / kg = ¥7,150
That's roughly 70% cheaper. For heavy and bulky cargo, the difference is enormous.
Here's exactly how it works, from start to finish:
Send us your cargo details: weight, dimensions, product type, photos (if you have them), and your Italian postcode. We'll get back to you with an all-inclusive price — usually the same day.
Your supplier delivers the goods to our warehouse in Dongguan (near Shenzhen) or Yiwu. If you need pickup from the factory, we can arrange that too.
Your cargo gets checked, labeled, and loaded into a shared container with other Italy-bound shipments. This is how we keep the price competitive — you only pay for the space you use, not for an entire 40ft container you're only partially filling.
The ship sails from China (usually Shenzhen or Shanghai) to Genoa. For southern Italy destinations, sometimes the ship goes via Gioia Tauro or Naples. Sea time is roughly 32-40 days.
This is the part that makes DDP worth it. We handle the entire customs clearance process. We file the entry, pay the dazi and IVA, deal with any inspections or queries from dogana — everything. You don't lift a finger.
After customs releases the cargo and it's unloaded from the container, it goes onto a truck for final delivery. For most Zone A addresses, this is 2-5 business days after clearance.
No more invoices. No customs forms. No phone calls from the port. Just your goods, delivered to your door.
Let's be real — shipping by sea isn't veloce. If you need it next month, you're paying air freight prices and you know it.
Here's the realistic timeline for DDP sea freight to Italy:
Fase | Tempo stimato |
|---|---|
Ricezione + consolidamento in Cina | 3 – 7 giorni |
Viaggio marittimo (Cina → Genova) | 32 – 40 giorni |
Sdoganamento in Italia | 3 – 10 giorni |
Consegna su strada (ultimo miglio) | 2 – 6 giorni |
Totale porta a porta | 42 – 63 giorni |
It can, yeah.
Genoa is the main entry port, so northern Italy (Milan, Turin, Bologna, Venice, etc.) gets the fastest and cheapest trucking. If your delivery is in the south (Naples, Bari, Reggio Calabria) or on the islands, the trucking takes longer and costs a bit more.
Most of the time it's not a huge difference — maybe 2-3 extra days and a slight price bump. But it's worth knowing.
I talk to Italian importers every week — Amazon.it sellers, eBay Italia merchants, B2B suppliers, negozianti, ristoratori. Here's what they tell us:
This is numero uno. You agree on a price with a freight forwarder, and then — bam — port charges, customs fees, broker fees, trucking fees, "spese di gestione." It never ends. Punto.
I'm not here to sell you la luna. Let's be honest about the downsides:
Let me spend a minute on this because it's important.
If you've ever tried to clear oversized cargo through Italian customs yourself... you know. The paperwork. The back-and-forth. The fact that the rules seem to change depending on who you talk to.
With DDP, we handle all of it. We have an Italian-registered importer of record, an Italian EORI number, and a team that deals with dogana every single day.
You don't need:
❌ Un numero EORI italiano
❌ Di fare dichiarazioni doganali
❌ Di calcolare dazi e IVA all'importazione
❌ Di parlare con gli uffici doganali
❌ Di ricevere fatture dopo la consegna
We take care of everything. You just receive the goods.
Per le aziende italiane con Partita IVA: If you have an Italian VAT number and want to reclaim the import IVA on your dichiarazione, we can provide the proper customs documentation (bilaterale IVA). Just let us know when you request your quote.

R: Assolutamente sì. Consegniamo in tutti i principali centri FBA italiani — FCO1, FCO2, FCO3, FCO4, MXP3, BLQ1, ecc.

R: Bonifico bancario in EUR, USD, GBP, o RMB.
D: E l'assicurazione?
