Poland to Reopen Border Crossings with Belarus

A breakthrough has emerged in the nearly two-week-long deadlock of Poland-Belarus border closure.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced on September 23 that the relevant border crossings will be reopened in the early hours of September 25. However, he also clearly reserved the right to close the border again "if necessary" in the future.

This border crisis originated from the Russia-Belarus "West-2025" joint military exercise that kicked off on September 12. Although the exercise ended on September 16, Poland did not lift its blockade measures simultaneously.

Earlier, on September 12, the Polish government suddenly announced the closure of all road and railway border crossings leading to Belarus. The move was aimed at safeguarding "national security", but it completely disrupted the transportation plans of China-Europe Railway Express trains and freight trucks passing through Belarus, leaving a large number of vehicles and trains stranded and dealing a severe blow to the major Eurasian logistics artery.
