On May 24, Transport and logistics company, Kuehne + Nagel, has partnered with sportswear multinational corporation, Adidas, on a new fulfilment facility in Mantova, Italy.

Kuehne + Nagel said the operations center, which will open in 2024, will not only provide automated, omni-channel services to meet Adidas' requirements for fast, flexible order processing, but will also be Kuehne + Nagel's largest carbon-neutral operations center in the world.

It is reported that the operation center covers an area of 130,000 square meters and can provide about 700 new jobs to serve adidas stores, retail stores, wholesalers and e-commerce customers in 19 countries in southern and eastern Europe.

According to Kuehne + Nagel, this operation center can meet the complex and changing order processing needs of Adidas. Through cutting-edge technology, experienced management team and well-trained warehouse workers, the center can handle more than 18,000 parcels per hour, meeting the needs of omni-channel orders such as Adidas B2B, B2C, Click&Collect, etc.

According to reports, the entire operation center is powered by 100% renewable energy. At the same time, the center also uses sustainable packaging materials and processes, thereby reducing overall resource consumption and carbon dioxide emissions, while ensuring the efficient operation of the business. In addition, employees in the operations center have the option of eco-friendly commuting transportation.

Gianfranco Sgro, member of the board of directors in charge of contract logistics at Kuehne + Nagel, said: “This project is not only large in scale, but also one of the most challenging projects for our team, combining technology, service level and sustainable operation.”

He also said that the project, developed during the city’s lockdown, not only reflects the capabilities of Kuehne + Nagel’s team in remote work and digital collaboration, but also with the support of Adidas and partners.
