It is reported that considering that the first batch of container ships using the above-mentioned alternative fuels will be put into operation in 2024, Kuehne+Nagel and Aker Clean Hydrogen will work together to expand the application scale of green alternative fuels in the shipping industry.

Among them, Aker Clean Hydrogen will be responsible for providing green fuel, and Kuehne+Nagel will cooperate with liner companies to provide container booking services.

Previously, Kuehne+Nagel and Aker Clean Hydrogen have conducted in-depth discussions with some liner companies planning to achieve green transportation, and these liner companies plan to use hydrogen fuel, ammonia fuel and methanol fuel as ship power.

Kuehne+Nagel said that by cooperating with the above-mentioned liner companies, in the future, the company's customers can purchase an appropriate amount of green fuel for their own cargo through the "Mass-Balance-Concept" of cargo and fuel, thereby avoiding carbon dioxide emissions in the supply chain.

Arne Faaberg, Managing Director of Dexon Norway, explains: "The mass balance concept is crucial in the transition phase to replacing fossil fuels with green fuels such as hydrogen and ammonia. The cooperation with Aker Clean Hydrogen will help our Commitment to a low-carbon business model, we will be able to provide certified green container shipping services.”

It is understood that in 2021, Kuehne+Nagel has created a precedent in the field of air transportation, providing customers with the service of purchasing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) for cargo to help the development of green aviation.
