The UAE's Safety Industry Regulatory Authority (SIRA) has tightened regulations that prohibit or restrict the import and export of hazardous chemicals (DG) at Dubai Ports.

Shipping company Ocean Network Express (ONE) said in an announcement a few days ago that with immediate effect, all such import and export activities must be approved in advance by SIRA, and shippers/consignees must obtain and submit approval documents when making reservations ( SIRA approved).

This SIRA approval must also be attached to the booking registration form along with other DGD (Dangerous Goods Declaration), MSDS etc. to avoid any problems when applying for approval to EHS (Department of Environmental Health and Safety).

ONE stated that import and export without the approval of EHS will be regarded as a violation and punished accordingly.

The procedures for importing dangerous goods in the UAE are as follows:

- When import and export goods are listed in the attached table (attached), the shipper/consignee should prepare SIRA approval documents and provide relevant documents (with samples).

- EHS approval must be obtained before the import vessel arrives

- When the cargo and importer/exporter details and SIRA approval match, the cargo is confirmed to be loaded.
