CMA CGM Updated Overweight Surcharge (OWS) from Asia to EU

Publish Time: 2022-09-15     Origin: Site

CMA CGM informs of the following Overweight Surcharge (OWS):

Effective September 15th, 2022 (loading date) until futher notice:

· From North East Asia, South East Asia, China, Hong Kong & Macau SAR

· To North Europe, Scandinavia, Poland & Baltic

· Cargo: 20' Dry only

· Quantum: USD 150 per 20' dry with container gross weight equal or over 20 tons

From 1 July 2021, CMA CGM is charging an overweight surcharge of US$300/TEU on Asia-North Europe. This also means that the overweight surcharge has been reduced by 50%.

The overweight surcharge is an additional charge for each piece of cargo whose gross weight exceeds a specified weight (which varies from shipping line to line).

The reason why shipping companies add an overweight surcharge is that overweight cargoes require heavy crane work during loading and unloading operations, and at the same time, they need to be tied and reinforced, which will incur additional expenses such as crane fees, labour costs, padding and reinforcement materials, thus charging additional fees.
