Recently, PSA Halifax is pleased to announce the launch of the AMERIGO service—a new joint operation by CMA CGM, COSCO Shipping, OOCL, and ONE. Its maiden voyage vessel, CMA CGM AMBITION, called at PSA Halifax’s Atlantic Hub Terminal on November 25, 2025.

The AMERIGO service will enhance direct trade links between the Mediterranean and North America, offering more options and better connectivity for Canadian exporters and importers. It includes calls at key Mediterranean gateway ports such as Salerno, La Spezia, Genoa, Vado Ligure, Valencia, and Algeciras, as well as major ports on the U.S. East Coast, including New York, Norfolk, Savannah, and Miami.

"The maiden call of the AMERIGO service in Halifax underscores our commitment to enhancing global trade flows," said Duncan Glass, Managing Director of PSA Halifax. "This new service provides our customers with more choices, faster transit times, and a reliable network between the Mediterranean, Southern Europe, and Canada via Halifax. It also offers seamless connectivity to Montreal, Toronto, and the U.S. Midwest through CN Rail’s extensive rail network."

The introduction of the AMERIGO service further strengthens PSA Halifax’s growing role as a strategic cold chain gateway. Leveraging PSA Halifax’s fast rail solutions, the service will transfer time-sensitive refrigerated cargo (such as citrus fruits) directly from ship to rail, with departures to inland markets on the same day. Close coordination and collaboration between PSA Halifax, CN Rail, and the Halifax Port Authority enable the fast, seamless flow of refrigerated goods.

Fulvio Fracassi, President and CEO of the Halifax Port Authority, added: "This new Mediterranean service, with direct calls in Italy and Spain, strengthens our gateway partnership with Ocean Alliance and Ocean Network Express (ONE). Complementing their existing services to South and Southeast Asia, it achieves two weekly calls. We look forward to supporting enhanced supply chain connectivity and creating new opportunities for Canadian trade diversification and expansion."

The CMA CGM AMBITION is a 7,327 TEU LNG-powered container ship, part of CMA CGM’s new generation of eco-friendly vessels designed to support global maritime decarbonization efforts.
