On December 31, 2025 local time, US President Trump signed a document to postpone the planned tariff increases on imported soft furniture, kitchen cabinets, bathroom cabinets and related products.

The current 25% tariff rate remains unchanged; the original plan to raise kitchen and bathroom cabinet tariffs to 50% and soft furniture tariffs to 30% (effective January 1, 2026) is now delayed until January 1, 2027.

Soft furniture mainly refers to furniture with sponges and fabrics as the main components. Industry associations and media in the US previously stated that tariff increases on these products would add new pressure on American consumers, homebuyers and builders. Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that furniture prices rose 4.7% year-on-year last August, with living and dining room furniture surging 9.5% in the past 12 months.

The US is China’s largest export market for furniture and bathroom products. In the first half of 2025, China’s furniture exports to the US accounted for 23% of the total. This tariff delay prevents a sharp rise in export costs for enterprises and stabilizes the order expectations of American customers to a certain extent.
