Hapag-Lloyd Imposes $1000/Container Rate Hike – Effective August 1

Following Maersk’s recent announcement of Peak Season Surcharges (PSS) for Asia-Africa and Asia-Mediterranean routes in late July, its alliance partner Hapag-Lloyd has now escalated costs further.

The German carrier will implement a General Rate Increase (GRI) of $1000 per container on the following routes:

  • Far East Main Ports → West Coast South America

  • Far East Main Ports → Mexico, Central America & Caribbean

Effective Dates:

  • August 1, 2025 (most regions)

  • August 22, 2025 (Puerto Rico & U.S. Virgin Islands)

The adjustment will remain until further notice.
