Italian trade unions plan to hold two days of strikes and protests on September 19 and 22, 2025, to express support for Gaza. Organized by the General Confederation of Labor and other union groups, the strikes aim to protest Israel’s military escalation in the Gaza Strip. CGIL, one of Italy’s largest unions, will stage a strike from 00:01 to 24:00 local time on September 19. While the strike will not affect essential public services such as transportation, schools, and healthcare, local news reports indicate that workers in the private sector—including freight, logistics, and road sectors—may participate.
Kuehne+Nagel, the world’s largest shipping freight forwarder, has warned clients: During the strike, access to ports and terminals may not be guaranteed, or severe delays could occur. According to local media, port workers may strike for up to 24 hours, except for those engaged in activities that affect constitutionally protected rights. Other unions including Cub, Adl, and Sgb have called for a national general strike on September 22.
The strikes will impact both the public and private sectors, including local public transport, schools, universities, and ports. Rail transport disruptions will begin at 21:00 on September 21 and end at 20:59 on September 22.
