On October 7, IKEA, a world-famous major shipper, and U.S. logistics technology firm Locus jointly announced that IKEA has acquired Locus. IKEA stated that this acquisition will support its online sales expansion strategy, making product delivery smoother and faster.

Although IKEA did not disclose the transaction amount, public data shows that Locus was valued at $300 million in its latest round of financing.

It is understood that IKEA has long relied on third-party suppliers for "last-mile logistics" services. This acquisition marks a major shift in IKEA’s supply chain logistics.

Meanwhile, this acquisition is also one of the supplementary measures under Ingka Group’s (formerly IKEA Group, which handles the retail of IKEA products in specific countries and regions) $2.2 billion investment plan in the U.S. Currently, Ingka Group competes with companies like Walmart in the U.S. and faces cost pressures from rising import tariffs.

Under the agreement, Locus will provide IKEA with an AI-driven logistics management platform. By integrating multiple functions such as route optimization and real-time tracking, it will greatly help IKEA improve the efficiency of its global supply chain, enhance the delivery capability of IKEA products, and thereby improve customer experience.

Parag Parekh, Chief Digital Officer of Ingka Group, further stated that Locus will also help IKEA offer customers more delivery time options, enable real-time package tracking, and speed up delivery. This technology will first be piloted in the U.S. and the UK, then promoted globally.

IKEA expects that after acquiring Locus, it will simplify its global logistics system and reduce delivery costs by approximately €100 million (about $117.4 million) annually.

In addition, under the agreement, Locus will remain independently operated and provide services to customers other than IKEA.
