A Chinese Shipping Company "Joins the Game"! Partners with Hapag-Lloyd, Launches First Middle East-South Asia Service

Amid the rapidly changing and increasingly competitive global shipping landscape, a new standout player has emerged.

Recently, Chinese shipping company Greta Shipping announced the launch of three dedicated routes connecting the Middle East and South Asia.

According to Alphaliner, this Singapore-registered subsidiary of Xiamen C&D Group will commence operations in mid-August.

Greta Shipping’s JKX service will link Jebel Ali (a key Middle East transshipment hub) with Karachi, Pakistan’s primary port.

The company has chartered the 2,444 TEU vessel "Hui Fa" for this service, with its maiden voyage set to depart from Jebel Ali on August 15.

AIS data shows that the "Hui Fa"—a 2020-built container ship—is currently en route to Nhava Sheva, with an expected arrival on August 17.

In addition to JKX, Greta Shipping will enter the UAE-West India corridor through two new services—JIX1 and JIX2—and has secured a slot-sharing agreement with Hapag-Lloyd, the world’s fifth-largest shipping company.

  • JIX1 (effective August 11) will operate the Jebel Ali-Nhava Sheva-Jebel Ali leg within Hapag-Lloyd’s existing IG1 (Gulf-Pakistan-India) loop.

  • JIX2 (launching August 13) will utilize slots on Hapag-Lloyd’s KWF service, which has been expanded to include Kandla on India’s west coast.
